Talk to people

I was sitting in my window seat on the plane, laptop open, ready to get some work done before departure from Barcelona to London, when I vaguely heard the person next to me playing a voice note.

I overheard something coming from their phone and thought, did they just talk about the Mauritian election? What are the odds?

So, I immediately asked, “Were you just talking about Mauritius?”

And she goes, “Yes!”

I said, “Why?”

“Because I’m a quarter Mauritian,” she replied.

And just like that, we started chatting.

For the entire 2.5-hour flight, we didn’t stop. We talked about everything – our work, our relationships, our passions.

At some point, Alya Minney told me it was so wild we met because, just before boarding, she’d been thinking about how much she needed a digital marketing mentor.

A couple of weeks later, we met again for a hands-on session. We worked through strategies, explored how digital marketing could support her music, and exchanged ideas. It was awesome.

There’s no life-changing moral to this story, except: talk to people. It makes life more interesting.
