Pods where all items are stored that are driven by robots to the human picker (based on distance – they choose the shortest) to then shine a light on the specific drawer of the pod;
Simple yet sophisticated packing method;
SLAM (Scan, Label, Apply and Manifest) machine that among others, recognizes empty boxes (errors) before they go out for delivery;
That’s in a nutshell the amazing Amazon machine (no pun intended) I witnessed while visiting the Amazon fulfillment center in Dartford, UK last week.
This fulfillment center was built two years ago with the vision of achieving one million fulfilled orders in a single day (currently the record stands at 600,000 orders in one day).
You might think you’ve seen it all in videos, BUT it’s incredibly impressive IRL for anyone and in particular if you’re in business, inspired by Amazon, and contemplating how AI is transforming operations as we speak.
